Dear Scampers People –

We’re still enjoying our summer, even though we have reached that page on the calendar that tells us to prepare for the next season – when we were kids, this was the week for shopping for pencil cases and notebooks (when that meant ring binders with three-hole punched paper), new school clothes and shoes – all very sturdy and stiff. But, summer is still with us and we’re looking at several days of lovely warm sunshine and fun, so let’s focus on that.

Scampers will be closed on Monday, September 5, 2011

We will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2011, and wish everyone a safe and happy long weekend. Enjoy your barbecues with family, camping, visits to the beach, however you enjoy your Labor Day weekend. We’ll see you on Tuesday, ready for nose-to-the-grindstone season.

Pooch of the Month, September 2011 – Voting Now Open

Voting is now open for September’s Pooch of the Month. Visit our Facebook photo album  and click on “Like” to vote for your favorites (and be sure to pass the word along to all your friends). We will announce the September Pooch of the Month in next week’s Weekly Recap.

Welcome Elise

We are so pleased and excited to welcome Elise Poston to the Scampers crew. Elise has very recently relocated from Annapolis, MD, and comes to Scampers with tons of experience with pups – much from the rescue activities her family continues to engage in. She enjoys working with all the dogs, and has formed lots of great friendships with your pooches already.

Pooch Health: One Confirmed Case of Bordetella

We had been hearing rumblings that there was an elevated threat of Bordetella in the region, and unfortunately, that has now been confirmed as one of our Campers has been diagnosed with a strain that his vaccine did not cover. We are confident that he will be back to full health with proper care and attention, and we look forward to seeing him once he’s cleared to return. Meanwhile, we are watching all our other Campers for symptoms, which include a nasty “honky”, hacking cough that can last a few minutes and can be so severe as to cause the dog to retch. The dog may also have runny nose and eyes. The Bordetella vaccine is highly effective against most strains, but may not prevent your dog from contracting the disease; it should mitigate the severity of the symptoms, however, and for that reason we require Scampers Campers to have their Bordetella vaccinations on a six month cycle.

Pooch Health – a Cooperative Effort

Please remember your role in protecting the health of your own dog as well as all the Scampers Campers. If your dog is displaying symptoms that warrant veterinary care, please ask your veterinarian if or when return to a daycare environment is appropriate.

We’ve Been Nominated!

Thank you very much for all your kind support through review sites like Yelp and Google. Our online reputation means a great deal to us – we know that many of you have come to Scampers because of the reviews you have found online. We are very proud to have been nominated for Evening Magazine’s Best of Western Washington. Voting opened on August 29th and ends October 9th. If you feel so inclined, you can add your vote by clicking here.

Photos and Video

We are now posting videos on  YouTube as well as Facebook, Flickr and the Scampers Blog. Take a tour from time to time to see if there are any new shots of your pooch in action. If you haven’t seen Matthew, aka Spin Cycle yet, do make a point of viewing that one.

Pawlogic’s Inspired by the Back-To-School Season

Pawlogic is offering a great deal to Scampers Campers – Cathy is offering one-on-one private training for your dogs during their day at Scampers, in half hour time slots, and customized to your requirements. Your dog will come home with an itemized report card and maybe even some homework for you! You’ll also get a complimentary pass to drop in on one of the Pawlogic group classes. Call Cathy at 425-443-5280 to reserve your spot – there’s been a great deal of interest already, so please give her a call to make sure you get one of those slots!
