Scampers Weekly Recap - October 23, 2015

We've been so busy this week, between hosting so many pooches, and celebrating our fifth anniversary.
We're so pleased to have been able to share in our celebration with all our families, offering coffee and delightful sweet treats. (Weren't they delicious?)
It still amazes us that it's already been 5 years...
Have a Cuppa Joe in support of pet rescue!
Hey all -- look for our new coffee service each morning when you are dropping off. We're donating the coffee and trimmings to the cause and any funds we take in for cups of coffee will be forwarded to Homeward Pet. We hope you'll opt for a quick Cuppa Joe from right here at Scampers so we can all help support canine rescue efforts.
Living in the seismically active Pacific Northwest, we at Scampers are aware of the threat of earthquakes; and while we have a plan in place for handling the dogs in that eventuality, we also knew there was lots more preparation to be done.
In August, former Scampers wrangler, Elise Poston, a trainer for CERT, provided training for our staff in Emergency Preparedness. We all found the information so interesting and compelling, and in just an hour's time we'd gained a much stronger understanding of what we can do at Scampers, as well as individually, to be prepared in case of disaster - earthquakes, fires, etc.
We're offering the same seminar to our Scampers campers family members, at no cost, as a community service.
If you'd like to attend the seminar on November 14th, click this link to send us an email. While there is a limit to how many we can accommodate for this seminar, and response has been strong, we do still have room for attendees.
Note: We plan to schedule a second showing, as this event has raised quite a lot of enthusiasm.
Tummy Troubles
We've had a few reports of pooches with tummy troubles in recent weeks. It appears there's a "bug" that has been causing a few days of tummy upset for a handful of our campers.
Most seem to feel better within a day or two, so we're thinking of it as a 24-hour bug, but we recommend paying a visit to your vet if your pooch's tummy troubles involve multiple occasions of vomiting and/or diarrhea, particularly if severe. It is important to make sure it really is just a simple matter and not something more serious. Whatever the cause, your vet can prescribe medications and help ease the symptoms.
Please be sure to ask your vet at that time whether it's safe to bring your pooch into Scampers, where they are the company of other pooches.

We've loaded up an album on our Facebook page with all the pictures we've received of our Halloween-costumed campers - they're awfully cute! Vote for your favorites, and the winner will be crowned Pooch of the Month.
Every once in a while we come across a dog-oriented joke.

We're a pretty close knit group of pooches - we form strong friendships, and we get to know each other very well. When we new pooches join us, we love to introduce them around and get them started in their Scampering adventures - that's why they call us the "Welcome Waggin".
This week, we met Little Buddy bright and early on Monday morning. He's a young doodle with a ton of personality, and plenty of curiosity.
Sebastian joined the Mediums on Wednesday, and moseyed on just as if he'd been coming forever. He made friends with each new greeting, and jumped around in full fun mode.
Today, we met Buffy. She's a senior golden, as pretty as can be. She's a little shy, but has eased into her day with all the campers, and enjoys watching all the excitement as it flurries around her.
We're missing Dexter the Cavalier, who's recovering from heart surgery. We miss you, dear little friend, and hope you're feeling better very soon.

Our boarding facility has very been busy this year. Some weekends have found our facility absolutely full to the brim with happy campers!
Remember to get your boarding requests in early to make sure there's room enough for your pooches, especially for the upcoming holidays.

This is Gunde, relaxing during her recent weekend with us. Gunde used to be a regular camper and we've missed her wily sense of humor, so we're glad she still comes to board once in a while.
Sibling Berner-Golden mix pups Nox and Oris found a nice spot for a mid-day nap - boarding is tiring work for these active and mischievous pups.
Chris Sugarbaker of Cut-N-Run, mobile groomer extraordinaire will make his next visit to Scampers on Tuesday, November 10th.
His schedule really does fill up often, and while we'll try to squeeze everyone in, please make sure to get your request in early if your dog needs a spruce-up.

Dogs have an incredible sense of smell and an inborn desire to hunt. The sport of K9 Nose Work is designed to develop the natural scenting abilities of your dog by using their passion for hunting and their love of toys, food and exercise.
It's a great class for your dog to have fun, build confidence, and burn lots of mental and physical energy and you get to find out just how good your dog's nose is.

PupPod is the new fun and training game for your dog that everyone is talking about.
We took the PupPod prototype for a test drive at Scampers recently, and everyone who had a chance to try it out had a grand time with it. They found they could make goodies appear by carrying out little tasks.
We're making plans with the PupPod developers to use PupPod in future to entertain your pooches at Scampers. Watch this space...

A gentle reminder that Scampers daycare hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Friday, and our weekend and holiday daycare hours are by appointment only, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
In the case of an emergency, we are able to make the accommodation for extended stay. Please call us, though, to advise.
It's a very easy process to set up or change recurring appointments for your pooches. Just stop by our front desk or let us know by email if you'd like to set up, change, or confirm recurring appointments for your campers.

Our reception area is often very busy, and we host many dogs with many different kinds of personalities. While we love them all, we know that some are inclined to jump up and greet new friends, and others are inclined to try to protect their beloved humans.
